Mrs. G is inducted into the
“Babysitters Hall of Fame”
Floral Park Families gathered together on a frigid Saturday night January 6th to honor and induct Kathy Genovese into their “Babysitters Hall of Fame”. Over the past 48 years, Kathy known as “Mrs. G” by all, has been the loving caretaker of 30 children from 12 families, enabling the parents of those children to be able to go to work knowing that their children were in caring hands.
In a remarkable event sponsored by two mothers, Chris Kelly and Peggy Schlechter, the planned surprise party for Kathy (Mrs. G) was attended by almost all the parents and children that she cared for over the years. During the 4 hour party at the Floral Park Knights of Columbus Hall, over 65 parents and children, (children ranging in age from a few years old to teens and young adults)… paid homage and demonstrated their appreciation for her caring hand.
The tribute included a Powerpoint presentation displaying Kathy (“Mrs. G”) and the children she cared for, two memory books filled with photos and letters describing best memories of the children and other personal notes. Topping off the evening was an occasion for parents and children to vocally express their stories, memories and their thankfulness.
Kathy (“Mrs. G”) was so overwhelmed by all this attention and expressed to all that she was “so blessed to be part of their families”. Words expressed by parents and children were summed up by a one mother who spoke, “You were our children’s second mother, a friend and as close as a sister…..We love you Kathy and are proud to be part of your life. “
