Board Honors Intel Finalist and FPM Soccer Champions
Floral Park Memorial High School’s boys soccer team and Elmont Memorial High School 2016 Intel Science Talent Search finalist Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna were recognized by the Sewanhaka Central High School District Board of Education at the January Board meeting.
The honors kicked off with Superintendent Dr. Ralph Ferrie extending his congratulations to the boys soccer team on being named Nassau County champions. Dr. Ferrie thanked the team for providing members of the district with a “thrilling fall season.”
The superintendent continued by sharing the accomplishments of Augusta, who was one of three Long Island finalists in the Intel Science Talent Search. Dr. Ferrie and Elmont Memorial Principal Kevin Dougherty described Augusta as an
incredible young lady with a humble nature who is an advocate for academics. Dr. Ferrie also expressed his gratitude to Elmont Memorial science teachers Michelle Flannory and David Spinnato.
“These two teachers have a full schedule of classes, do additional work and provide mentorship to young people like Augusta,” Dr. Ferrie said. “It’s a credit to the work they do that we have students who are Intel finalists.”
