McGrath Announces Senate Bid
On Wednesday, February, 10th, Chris McGrath kicked off his campaign for the Special Election in New York State Senate’s Ninth District.
Hundreds of community members packed the John J. Oliveri VFW Post 1582 in Inwood as McGrath announced his campaign. Members of the crowd included elected officials, community members, civic members, and supporters from all areas of the Senate District.
With his wife, Monica, and their daughters, by his side, McGrath announced his bid for State Senate.
“Today, I am proud to announce that I am running for the State Senate. I have spent my whole life here in the 9th Senatorial District. I was born and raised right here in Inwood…that’s why we’re announcing here today,” said McGrath.
“I have had a blessed life and it has been rewarding …especially giving back to the community that has given so much to me …the Peninsula Kiwanis, what they have done for this community has been amazing I have enjoyed being a part of that. One of the best programs ever is the Christmas Dream program and on day one, I was involved with helping to organize its efforts, donating toys to children and thousands of clothing items to those in need of them most and that has been so rewarding to be a part of that,” continued McGrath.
“Our public schools should not be short changed, our children need to have hope and I will support school choice for those who wish to educate their children in a religious setting.”
“This is the most important election in New York State History…I believe in a balance of power, and if you believe in that balance like I do, then there is nothing more important than this campaign. I have the time to give back to our community…so our generation can govern better than the previous generation. If we take care of our children, they will then be in a better position to take care of our suburban communities and our state,” said McGrath.
McGrath, reminded the crowd how when NYC Democrats were in charge of the Senate, Assembly and Governor’s office in 2009 and 2010 they increased taxes by $14 Billion and increased spending by another $14 Billion. They created 124 brand new taxes and fees for all of us to pay including the MTA Payroll Tax, eliminated property tax rebate checks and shifted Long Island school aid to NYC.
Chris McGrath is a lawyer, who has represented, for free, the brave men and women of 9/11 who were first responders who helped in the search and recovery efforts at Ground Zero. As a member of the community, Chris is involved in many civic and charitable organizations. He is a distinguished past president of Peninsula Kiwanis, creating the organization's foundation for underprivileged and handicapped children.
“As our next state senator I am promising you…. I will never vote on anything that is against our children or against our communities, you have my promise that I will represent our communities proudly in the State Senate,” concluded McGrath.
