Mayors Alert on Third Track Project Update---
Mayor Tweedy & the Mayors along the Third Track corridor (Bellerose, New Hyde Park, South Floral Park, Stewart Manor, Garden City, Mineola and Westbury) have drafted a letter in opposition to the proposed Third Track project. The letter sets forth opposition of the Mayors along the Third Track corridor to the Governor’s surprise re-submittal of the previously rejected Third Track Project.
Instead of the Third Track Project, the Mayors assert that New York State should fund LIRR President Nowakowski’s already existing plan to relieve congestion and improve service on the Main Line.
The Main Line Mayors’ Letter was submitted to the Nassau County Village Officials Association (“NCVOA”) which represents Nassau’s 64 Villages, seeking the NCVOA’s support against the Third Track Project. This letter was briefly discussed at the NCVOA meeting on February 9, 2016 and a resolution opposing the Third Track will be voted upon at the NCVOA’s March meeting. In addition, we are informed that the Governor and other proponents of the Third Track Project have received the letter.
